I think everyone is tired of these arguments, especially at a time when the goonies future is uncertain. True, its good to debate these topics, but its usually the same, some one comes in who maybe doesn\'t have the same feelings about the goonies as the rest of us and posts something kind of dumb, but then everyone attacks him/her because we feel that they should have already had the experience we have had and have the understanding that we do. This is wrong on both sides and we should just chill out, everyone pro-goonies AND anti-goonies. It seems most, but not all, people are predisposed to a way of thinking, they either like the band of they don\'t, and the argue from there and its a complete stand still. I wish we could all meet at a middle ground where we, the pro-goonies, try to inform the anti-goonies about what we have and feel with this band+fanbase, and the anti-goonies people should be more open minded to what we have here. I think that if we all try to compromise and not dig our heels in, we can resolve these arguments with mutual understanding and agreement. The goonies shouldn\'t be a citadel to protect, but rather a knowledge to promote. I love everyone here. .~Cal~.

Hmm, time to add my two sense...Consumed is probably one of my favorite goonies songs, and probably the one that has influenced me the most in my own life. But it\'s funny, when i say that, im only referring to a few lines, not the entire song. I interpret the song as having two themes: the first and most obvious is the corporate one, and this is also the one that the majority of the song pertains to. Honestly, this theme means next to nothing to me, as I have no knowledge on the details of the topic (if anything, this theme reminds me of my own ignorance). The second, and to me, more important theme, is a call to live your life to its fullest...\"don\'t fall victim to the accepted crime/ of judging worth with dollar signs\" and of course \"how will you know what its really like to be alive/ be alive! what its really like to be ALIVE!/ be alive! not just survive,, what its really like to fucking BE ALIVE\" exempify this theme. Thinking of this song live, and screaming those words, and thinking of the first time i sat down and read them, make me realize how sometimes I lose site of how much enjoyment we can get from life. the grasp of advertisement isn\'t just that i SEE/ HEAR ads all the time, but that the ads have a profound effect on my thinking and self-image. this kind of manipulation makes me really angry.

the song consumed isn\'t intended to be an attack on anything. it\'s more of a proclamation.. \"i won\'t take the easy way out\" -- that\'s a pretty bold statement. to me, it means questioning the things that pop into my head. are they really MY thoughts or the involuntary result of seeing coca cola logos plastered all over everyone and everything i see day in and day out?

perhaps the most important lyric in the song to me is .. what will they do when we turn our backs? because, seriously, what WOULD happen, if suddenly advertising lost it\'s effectiveness? last week, my friend told me that she read if nike did one less TV advertisement per year, they could give all of their factory (aka - sweatshop) employees a dollar raise.

a statistic like that ignores some important factors involved with payroll and the economics of a multinational corporation- but it does illustrate just how much MONEY goes into each developing, creating and running each ad.

i study and teach graphic design in college. i am FASCINATED by advertising. i think that nike and the gap have two of the most creative ad teams in the world, yet- i am disgusted that such amazing people would give their talents to companies with well-documented histories of human rights violations. imagine that those same ad teams refused to do any new ads until their employers changed the way they do business? what would happen if THOSE people \"turned their backs?\" even better, what if they started advertising for companies with positive things to bring to the world community?

It is a message about the commercialization of American culture and the narrow scope of Capitalism and how it forces us to value money and profit over almost anything else. I just think that whatever makes the Goonies happy is what they should do. I know that if my band decided to go in the direction of, say, jazz fusion, I would hope that the fans wouldn\'t hate it. Just because dan is adding something interesting and a little more sophisticated to the goonies\' music doesn\'t make him the enemy. This music is more than just a lot of sweaty guys playing twister without the matts. It\'s about expression and feelings, like any music should be. If you don\'t get that then maybe you should take a closer look. This genre in particular embraces the concept of breaking out of the box and doing things a little \"out of step with the world.\" One would think you could embrace some change.

Anyways, I just have a low tolerance for people who are constantly on the case of bands who change. What next? Gonna call the goonies sellouts because they have a synthesizer and melody?

i like the goonies. i think Dan adds an element which makes the live shows more interesting. I like that the setlist changes a lot to add new songs and drop old ones. It would be boring if the goonies played the songs of the split every show. That\'s not a show. That\'s a cd. If you wanna hear those songs, listen to the cd. I think that the goonies should dowhatever feels right, be it breaking up, playing only new songs, or adding a theremin to their ensemble. And please, don\'t give Dan such a tough time. He\'s a very nice kid who is working with the goonies (among several others) to make a cd for you to listen to so that when you are familiar with the new songs you will have that much more goonies\' legacy to enjoy. This is all very frustrating.

I was under the impression goonies fans meant fans of what the goonies DO. contrary to what you think you know, its not \"goonies and dang on random instruments\" i am not randomly showing up and trying to be cool by being in the goonies. This is the same mentality of fans that contributed the initial breakup. You say not to be offended but nare has there been a more offending statement. Thats because im obsessed with music of all shapes and sizes and love being able to make it, the goonies are a new outlet for this and it as mentioned is not to be a prolonged one. I think maybe you dont understand how the goonies work as a band. Our shows are almost never planned and everything that happens just kind of...happens. We werent trying to be \"artsy\", or \"dramatic\", or anything of the sort. it was quite unplanned and random. we actually made the setlist 2 minutes before we played, and we didnt discuss any kind of ending in particular. it really just happned. as for \"going out in a bang\"... i thought we did. absolute silence is something very precious and definitely very rare at shows. to me, and i think others, it is much more impressive to have absolute silence, where you can here everyone breathing and you can look around and be content at what is happening, than it is to just end a show like everyone else with \"an old favorite\". I dont think the silence was akward, maybe it was to you, but then maybe you have some issues you need address or something. i dont know. i thought most people really liked it. Wow, I\'m impressed at that last entry. In an attempt to sound artsy with the intentions of impressing Kevin Driscoll, she made up at least 3 words, and mispelled about 4. Well its been over a week since the show in attleboro and i cant supress the urge to offer my synopsis.First, let\'s drop all our biases fer one hypothetical second and look at the goonies objectively for what they truly are; art in its most pure form.Like any artistic statemenet, the show the other day caused controversy, i mean what gud wud art be if everyone possesed the same interpretation. Also, the only fundemental law governing art itself is that it is definitionless. And to hold it to a narrow, procrustean set of standards defeats the whole purpose.Furthermore, it defeatsthe purpose of the progressivity, and revolutionary change that the goonies stand for. In a nutshell, things wud get mighty boring if you always knew what to expect.Personally, i think the goonies were just trying sumthing new, not permanent, but experimental and amorphus, the way life is in general.To those who werent passing judgements, the show was a forum for relizing how gud it feels to be humyn.

hello, im from ms:l , we opened at the show last friday- id just like to say that that was by far our worst performance. what went wrong: 1. our drummer, mike, didnt have a high hat clutch, because of this he had to alter what he played, also he borrowed sticks which i think he ended up breaking and paying for after.2. our rhythm guitarist,nick, had difficulties with the amp he was using, the lineup was now down to 4.3. mike stood up,picked up a drum, dropped it, sat down, missed his seat,hit the ground, killed the song (our first)4. found out no dancing, this screwed me all up because it is extrememly tough to put your all into the music when there is absolutely no energy in the crowd. 5.had a friend go up to sing a song he wrote as kind of a birthday gift because his band broke up, our other guitarist alex didnt know it so the birthday boy put the mike down and walked away mid-song. all in all the set really upset me . we hadnt practiced for roughly 2 months- due to a recording we were trying to finish but got bad results after 3 songs so stopped. we now have a new date to start recording (the 5th). hopefully it comes out nice. improbably complaining about it all too much but i just dont want people to get the idea that what we do doesnt mean anything to us, and that were a joke. i hope we can redeem ourselves at another show sometime. well thats about it for me. i hope the rest of the show went very well( we needed to split to play a party....sorry). p.s. email me if you saw my band and give me your honest opinion bout it- peace

why is it that any negetive feed back of the goonies or preformance always causes the person who says it to be almost ostracized because of their personal oppinion. from personal experience and seeing it happen to other people. even if someone likes the goonies but thinks something slightly negetive ive seen people get very offended, its like a goonies army or something. i dont think its the goonies that give people bad experiences at shows but maybe the kids who dont give others space or a chance to have theyre own thoughts. everyone should like what they want whether they choose to like or dislike something. constructive critizism and personal oppinions give people new ideas as well. positive and negetive influence help people grow. so if you have positive or negetive oppinions try not to get at the throats of the person on the other side of the fense. i think its giving alot of people misunderstood complexes.

reading johns entry made me think quite a bit about what \'the goonies\' (yes in quotes) mean to me. after driving 2 hours + to the show on saturday, and being dissapointed by a bunch of the bands, and the eventual order in which they played, the entire night was made worth it by the goonies performance. all of that driving on so little sleep seemed like NOTHING after the music that came pouring out. i can honestly see what john means by his comments about the things kevin might say but there is a rather more important flip side. if kevin didnt say things such as those... well who would? im barely out of my teenage years and i look around wondering who will be a role model, or who will speak with a positive message to the generation already coming into the world behind me. and i am not labeling Kevin as a role model, but id rather see him spreading a message about hatred, rape, and other subjects, than having to see kids listen to some jerk say \'pot is good\' or \'damn that bitch is hot, i wanna get in her pants\' and countless other things that i dont even feel like bringing to mind. unlike john i slowly got into the goonies, after having the split for quite some time and (no offense) not paying much attention to the goonies, i finally started to listen to the music and the lyrics... and since then ive been a devout fan. wow this is a rant.. hope its positive though...

i ve been listening to the goonies for about 3 years now i think, i guess i dont remember exactly what year but i can remember the first show. it was at the hanover vfw with kicked in the head. the goonies sounded good but i was really impressed with kith. i bought the split which had just come out, i think it may have been the release party or just shortly after. i admit i bought it for kith. but when i got it home, i was definately impressed with the goonies, taking more a liking to them. the song \"friends\" became an anthemn for me and two of my friends who were going through kinda tough times emotionally and got by only the strenght we fed off of each other. our favorite thing to do was to get the hell away from everything and drive to a goonies show, where there was love, but no pressure. just a good time with good people. over the years, the goonies have changed. i dont mean any offense but even before the breakup, i was losing interest in the goonies. i think you guys take yourselves too seriously. you take the goonies as a way of life and it has become almost a religion that you preach. i know you re for free thinking and non commercialism, but when you get up before each song and tell us not only what it is about, but how we should think about such issues and where we should stand, dont you realize that you are only breeding what you claim to hate? just because its for something you believe is right, telling people what they should think and do still is never right. now when you talk to people about the goonies its like they judge you and try to see if you are worth listening to the goonies or not. like its not just a good time with a good message, its like if you dont believe every word kevin driscoll says, you will be ex-communicated.\"we all have different minds and we all have different views, but when we stick together ya you know we ll never lose\", doesnt that even mean anythign anymore? i realize you wrote it when you were only 17 and you ve matured and so on and so forth but that shits always true. i think you need to simplify things a little. i m with you on your views against rape and male shovinism (spell check) but i dont think dwellign on it helps either, just have to be conscious of it in your own life, but focusing on positive things i feel is better than focusing on negatives in any situation. set good examples not examples of what is bad. i stopped going to goonies shows last summer because they werent fun anymore. just a bunch of kids listening for kevin driscol what to believe next and not thinking for themselves, dotn get me wrong, i think kevin has some very good ideas, and others i dont agree with but at least i know why i dont agree, and why i do agree, finding out what you believe for yourself is the most important part of self growth. providing an environment that is pressure free allows kids to think for themselves and enjoy their lives away from all that shit that is ever so present in the real world. the goonies provided that for me and my two friends two years ago, i m sorry but i cant say the same anymore. i wasnt too dissapointed when i heard the goonies were breakign up, im sure half of you that are reading this hate me for that haha, but you re all thinking the same now arent you? the goonies broke up to me a while ago, you guys are putting too much stress on your performance and your message and the impact you re going to have on these kids, relax and have fun playing again, you ll be surprised how much of an impact you can have just by setting an example and not preaching and preaching. the goonies were my favorite band, i d love to see them again, but they havent played in about a year......

I found the show on Saturday to be one of the best experiences of my life. I\'ve been to so many local shows, yet this was only the second time I had seen The Goonies perform. Most bands just act like idiots on stage and try to rip off other bands by covering their songs. But you guys just do what YOU do. You\'re The Goonies, and that\'s who you sound like. It makes me sad to think, after a really great show like that, that The Goonies won\'t be around for much longer. It makes me sad to come to this guestbook and see some of the things that people have the nerve to write, disrespecting other people and their amazing talents. Kevin Driscoll\'s words of wisdom have inspired me and many other people to see things in a different perspective. It has been his words of knowledge that have made me realize how much of a better person I can be if I reflect those views into my own life. i said this in an e-mail to kevin and in my journal: i may have seemed a little critical but i think its a tendency for people to be more critical and expect more from their friends. the goonies have truly become more than a band to me, i feel they are a friend. the members arent necessarily my personal friends but the music and the experience is. and like with our friends, we can forgive them easily as well. the goonies are often placed on a pedestal, but its important to remember they are not gods. saying they play a bad show is should not strip them of any respectability. most importantly, what i have decided is that the goonies are not gods, but they are friends, and i can live in a world without gods, but not without friends.

here\'s my 2cents- atmospherewise, it was an amazing show. the only way to breathe was to practically let the person right next to you lend you some of their oxygen. the music was insane. the unity feeling was there. but i do realize some of the points that john/pete/gabriel were making-you could kinda smell the tension (figuratively. overall, the place smelled like perspiration). so i agree with rebecca. if there are those of you that truly believe in what you\'re doing and love it to pieces, then hold on. if there are those that are no longer motivated to continue on with the movement, they should go their own way with no hard feelings. as a previous posted stated, the goonies movement has spread far and wide, so i\'m willing to bet if you really needed instrumental replacements, you could find some with the same driving ideals and passion. anyways, thats my honesty and advice. ps-aj, you blew me away in particular. that was furious playing.

I\'ve been thinking more about the show, and I\'d like to post something real quick that I also sent to Kev in an email, and posted on my own site. The first time that I saw the goonies live, or at least, the first time in years, was the first show after the \"breakup\". At that show, Kev said something like \"We don\'t have to be angry all the time.\" I take that to mean that goonies shows don\'t always have to involve all of us crying and hugging; that\'s only half of it. The other half is having a good time. So maybe the show Saturday night didn\'t involve the open emotion that other shows have; maybe we weren\'t all on the brink of tears. But the messages of the speeches in between songs, and of the songs themselves, still got across, and we still had fun. I think it would pretty fucking stupid of us, as fans, to go to goonies shows with the idea in our heads that \"well, I better see some tears tonight, or this is gonna be a pretty shitty show.\" Also, to the band, I\'d like to mention...if you\'re going to let a few comments get you down, and you\'re going to consider Saturday night to have been a bad show, than, well, keep in mind...bad shows are a part of being in a band...not every show is going to be the best one. I sound like I\'m trying to be a wizened old man, when in fact I\'m younger than all of you, plus this is far longer than I expected, so I\'m going to stop now.

i have had the privilege of attending the three goonies shows since the break. i can honestly say that all three of these performances were amazing. by far my favorite live band, the goonies make me feel like no other band ever has when they play. i look forward to these performances weeks ahead of time. i am confident that the number of people who feel this way far outweighs the number of people who feel any other way.

If this is all leading to another breakup, I think I\'m kind of pissed off. I get pissed off in general when I hear about members of thegoonies showing any lack of drive or passion. I went to the Warped Tour last summer, and looked around, and saw tons of people wearing goonies shirts and patches and shit, and realized the impact that you guys have on the scene in the area. And yes, I know, the idea is not to become rock stars, but to spread your messages of unity and, well, a whole ton of other stuff. But I\'d say the fact that if you go to any punk event around here, you will see signs of goonies fans, than that means the message is spreading. I think what I\'m saying is that you have far too much to throw away.

last nights show was an incredibly depressing experience. the troubles within the band became all too clear. the lack of passion was something i thought impossible from the goonies. on the birght side, my pictures from the show rock, and disguise any tension, seeing as the band hid their gloom from the camera. however, these pictures separate themselves from any others of the goonies which i have taken tho, mainly because travis is only in a few of them. the passion on his face, the way he looked like he was on the brink of tears, the sheer pain which seemed to boil in his vains as he screamed, those were one of my main focuses when i took pictures. however, last night they werent there to take pictures of.

Sorry. I got my info a little wrong before about Bush. He did something similar, but it was to foreign countries, not the US. However, I bet he\'d do that here in a heart beat if he could. But what\'s this about what he plans to do with our public schools? He wants to have standardized testing EVERY YEAR! And, when a school gets poor overall scores, the parents of the kids attending that school will get i think it $1000 or $1500 to enroll their kid into a private school. I don\'t know how you can still call this a democracy when the people/voters can\'t make decisions that are informed with REAL information. All the major \"news\" sources are corporation owned. i.e. General Electric, one of the leading arms manufacturers, owns runs and operates NBC. So they can tell everyone how well their bombs work in Desert Storm and Kosovo or just not tell people anything about them at all. that\'s some pretty hardcore censorship if you ask me, and a democracy is supposed to run with people knowing all sides of an issue, but how can you when the news papers are in a stranglehold from companies threatening to pull advertisements or sue if they see anything they don\'t like? Hi, i just wanted to make a comment about what \'mayoness\' said. umm...i don\'t think any band could replace the goonies. I love KITH but KITH and the goonies are uncomparable. KITH, especailly their new stuff, seems generic and unthoughtful-which isn\'t neccessarily bad. Yes they do \'get the crowd going\'. But they don\'t get the crowd thinking. That something most local shows lack. I wish there were more bands influenced by the goonies or atleast on the same track. Those shows were the shows that did something, had an effect. Hey all, I\'m just writing cause i\'m in computer class and we had a free period so i thought i\'d check out the guestbook so here i am. I\'ve been forced to go to these Dow Jones and the Industrials shows for the past couple of months I NEED SOME OF THE GOONIES LIVE SHOW SOON. I\'m sick of John(lead sinder for DJI) talking how they are not just ska but a new music and they suck now. The only thing close to a goonies show is a KITH (Kicked in the Head) or $5 Bucks show. So If Kevin or anyone from the Goonies reads this send me an e-mail and maybe we could set up a show peace out

Can you believe this? Two days in office and Bush is already fucking things up. He has succesfully cut off any and all funds to any organization or office doing abortions. And if that wasn\'t bad enough, he has also cut off funds to places educating people about abortions. So not only does he not want to have abortions, he doesn\'t want anyone to be fully informed about them (looks like it\'ll be back to coathangers). All he wants is the scare tactic videos shown by Christian Coalition and religious right groups. I thought this country was right wing before, but now this! I can\'t even fathom what is going to go down in the next four years. George W. Bush is the reason we need to get together and fight back. WE have the numbers and we have to organize and use them. Imagine what could happen if every rights group, enviornmental alliance, etc. organized and demanded change. We could make REAL decisions with progressive interest. Hopefully the youth that will be voting in the next elections can see this and make a long overdue reform. Let\'s do this.

The goonies (Boston) kick ass! we have no bands that we know of like you guys here in the UK! I brought the CD into college and played it to my mates, most of them liked it alot which isnt a bad reaction from a bunch of stiff upper lipped brits, into dance and pop music! Dan - \"You rock!\"

oh hey i think the reason that you get so many double-posts is because after you add the message it points you to index.phtml?add ... if he/she goes to a different site then uses the back button on the browser to refresh the gbook to see if anyone has responded then it will post it again with the .phtml?add -- its happened to me before.. i always feel like a jerk too.. heh - bye
